Our mission

Our mission is to educate the community and specifically the youth in Suriname to love and understand how nature works, our role in it and to protect, maintain and conserve it.

Our Vision

The Wildlife Rangers Club of Suriname (THE WRCS) is the leading organization in the Surinamese community that continuously makes an invaluable contribution to a sustainable future of Suriname in which the preservation of the unique biodiversity and awareness thereof play a major role.

Goals

Personal development: Developing activities for the Wildlife Rangers to help promote their intellectual and emotional growth, leading to better self-reflection and improved thinking and acting where necessary.

Social–societal, Creating a culture of nature awareness and sustainability in the Surinamese society, in which the value of nature conservation is recognized and integrated into daily life.

Environment: Developing and implementing sustainable nature conservation initiatives in collaboration with local communities, government, companies, and other organizations at home and abroad.

Education: Providing and promoting education and training in conservation and sustainability.

Politics and Legislation: Monitoring regulations related to nature conservation and sustainability and contributing to developing effective policy and legislation in this area.

Research: Supporting scientific research and monitoring of Suriname’s rainforest and promoting an evidence-based approach to nature conservation.

International Recognition: Promoting international cooperation on nature conservation and
sustainability, and contributing to global efforts to protect nature.

Sustainable entrepreneurship: Stimulating sustainable economic activities by sustainable forestry and nature management guidelines.

Sustainability: the organization strives for sustainable solutions for preserving Suriname’s nature and its ecosystems for current and future generations.

Collaboration/partnerships: The Wildlife Rangers Club Suriname (THE WRCS) works with local communities, the government, companies and other organizations to find practical solutions for nature conservation and sustainability.

Education: promoting education and training in conservation, environmental impact management, and sustainability.

Responsibility: The organization feels responsible for conserving Suriname’s nature and contributes to developing effective policy and legislation.

Innovation: The Wildlife Rangers Club Suriname (THE WRCS) is looking for innovative and creative solutions for the challenges associated with nature conservation and sustainability.

Respect: The organization respects Surinamese nature, traditions, cultures, and biodiversity and strives for a harmonious relationship between man and nature.

Integrity: All current and prospective Wildlife Rangers undertake this volunteer work with honesty, trustworthiness, dedicated passion, and compliance with the agreed standards and values of the organization.
